I am delighted to have this opportunity to congratulate all those involved in the publication of the Asian Who's Who International Directory in this its 25th year.

The Directory, like the Asian community in Britain, goes from strength to strength. It documents the vital contribution that the Asian community makes in every walk of life. It is right that we should celebrate and publicise this success which benefits the country as a whole. This year's recipient of the Asian of the Year Award will join a distinguished list of those who have made significant contributions to the life of the nation.

This Government is determined to take a strong lead in promoting equality of opportunity for everyone. As the Prime Minister has said, our vision is for a country in which every colour is a good colour, and every member of every race is able to fulfil their potential.

I want to take this opportunity to congratulate you and your team for the tireless efforts to produce and promote the Directory and the Asian of the Year Award. I am sure that next week's event will be another great success.
