Rt
Honourable David Blunkett
Home Secretary
2nd December 2002
Home Secretary David
Blunkett welcomed
the opportunity to
help launch of the
'Asian Who's Who'
International and
address the Asian
of the Year Dinner
and said:
“British Asians,
those born here and
those recently arrived,
with enterprise and
dedication, are playing
a vital role in building
a strong and vibrant
society.
“In business
and local government,
in the Commons and
the Lords, in entertainment
and sport. Asians
are succeeding across
every area of British
life, bringing a cultural
richness and an ethnic
diversity that we
treasure.
"Government
has a role too. I
am proud that Britain
now has the most comprehensive
anti-discrimination
legislation in Europe.
And the Government
continues to work
to reduce the barriers
to services, opportunities
and institutions that
serve to hold back
individuals and society.
“It gives me
great pleasure to
be here tonight to
help launch the 'Asian
Who's Who' International
directory, address
the Asian of the Year
dinner, and celebrate
the wealth of talent
and the success of
the Asian community
here in Britain.
“I call upon
all those committed
to diversity and inclusiveness
to reject racism in
all its guises and
to welcome legal and
legitimate immigration
into Britain as a
positive contribution
to the life and well-being
of this country.”
